Hatchet 3 is the horror film of 2013 in the Hatchet series. It follows the story of Victor Crowley's ongoing adventures as well as his escapade across Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder stars as Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn plays Deputy Winslow and Rileah Vanderbilt plays Misty.



The strengths of the film lie in its practical special effects. Unlike many modern horror movies which heavily rely on CG effects, Hatchet 3 features mostly realistic makeup effects and sets, resulting in some truly terrifying moments throughout the film.

The cast delivers a solid performance and Kane Hodder standing out as the most terrifying villain. The dialogue feels like a 1980s slasher film. It's funny and hilarious. There are also moments of humor throughout the film that add humor to all the bloody action.

Unfortunately, the film's budget was limited to one million dollars. That means a lot of locations featured in the film are re-used from earlier films. A boat house is featured twice and most of it feels recycled from other films. If you've watched Hatchet or Hatchet 2, this can sometimes make the movie feel familiar.

Overall, I was impressed (blog) by Hatchet 3 even though it was very similar to previous entries in this series--it provided plenty of gory thrills and entertaining performances from the actors.
